Activities and Measurements#

GroBase separates what happened from what you measured. This lets you log work even when you have no readings, or save a reading without claiming that you watered or fed anything.

Which action should I use?#

Log Activity

You did or noticed something: watered, fed or applied an input, trained, transplanted, performed IPM work, observed a change, or harvested.

Record Measurement

You measured a value: temperature, humidity, VPD, pH, EC/TDS, Plant height, or a Light reading such as PPFD.

Log activity or a measurement#

  1. Open a Cycle or the Plant or Light concerned.

  2. Select Log Activity or Record Measurement, then choose the entry type from the available options.

  3. On a Cycle form, choose Scope when offered to say whether the entry is for the Cycle, a Plant, or a Light.

  4. Enter the details you know and save. Review the entry on the Timeline.

You do not need to create a separate day before recording anything.

Log Activity choices#

Observation#

Use Observation to record something you noticed about a Cycle or Plant, such as a change in growth or health.

Watering#

Use Watering for a quick delivery log. Record how much water or solution you gave to a Plant or the whole Cycle.

Mix & Feed#

Use Mix & Feed when you prepare water or a nutrient solution and want to record what went into it and where it went. Enter the total volume prepared, if known. Add any Resources used; each ingredient amount is for the whole prepared solution. Plain water needs no ingredients.

In Ingredients, choose a saved Feeding Recipe and select Apply Feeding Recipe to copy its amounts and units. You can edit, add, remove, and reorder the copied ingredients before saving. Recipe amounts are copied as saved; they do not automatically scale to the prepared volume.

You can record pH, EC, or PPM/TDS measured from the prepared solution. Add one or more Plant deliveries and enter the volume delivered to each Plant. You can also save the preparation before delivering any of it. A difference between prepared and delivered volume is informational; it does not prevent you from saving.

Record runoff as a separate Solution measurement at the time you check it.

Deleting a Mix & Feed entry also removes its ingredients, prepared measurements, and Waterings still linked to it. A Watering you previously removed from that entry remains in your grow history. Separate runoff measurements remain available.

Training#

Use Training to record work done to guide or support Plant growth.

Inputs#

Use Inputs for standalone product or Resource applications, such as top dressing or a foliar spray.

Record an environment reading#

Choose Environment under Record Measurement. Enter the values you measured, then choose the time context that best describes them:

  • Lights On / Day: measured while the lights were on, or during the daytime period you track. This is the initial choice in manual forms.

  • Lights Off / Night: measured during the lights-off or night period.

  • Unspecified: the reading does not clearly belong to either period.

For Reading type, use Current Reading for a value taken at a particular point. Use Average if the value is already an average over some span of time. These choices matter when comparing readings with Grow Plan targets.

How GroBase Chooses an Area for New Readings#

GroBase may suggest an Area when you record an Environment or Cycle Light reading. It uses the stage that applies on the reading’s date, including when you enter an earlier reading.

  • Cycle Environment: Uses the Default area for new readings set for that Cycle stage, when available.

  • Plant Environment: If the Plant is placed in just one Grow Space Area for its applicable stage, GroBase suggests that Area first. Multiple physical placements in the same Area still count as one Area. If the Plant has no single placement Area, GroBase uses that stage’s default instead; if there is no default, Area stays blank. A Plant with its own timeline uses its own applicable stage, even when the Cycle is in a different stage.

  • Cycle Light: If the Light is placed in just one Grow Space Area for the applicable Cycle stage, GroBase suggests that Area first. If it has no placement or is placed across multiple Areas, GroBase uses the Cycle stage’s default when one is set; otherwise Area stays blank. Cycle Lights always follow the Cycle timeline.

Default area for new readings only chooses what appears in the Area field when you start a new reading. It does not move Plants or Lights, change past readings, or limit a stage to one Area. You can change or clear the suggested Area before saving. The Area saved with the reading is its historical Area; changing a stage’s default later will not change it.

Calculate VPD#

  1. Enter Temperature and Relative humidity (%).

  2. If you measured or estimated a leaf difference, enter the Leaf temperature offset. Otherwise leave it blank.

  3. Select Calculate beside VPD (kPa).

  4. Check the result. You can edit it before saving the measurement.

Calculate fills the VPD field; it does not save the form for you. If an older reading has no reliable unit, follow any warning shown with it.
