Grow Space#
Grow Space gives you a top-down view of where Plants and Cycle Lights sit in an Area during a Cycle stage. Each stage and Area can have its own layout, so you can update the arrangement as the grow changes without moving items in an earlier layout. Find Layout on a Cycle in Advanced view.
Create a layout#
Add an Area (with dimensions if you know them), and add the Plants or Lights you want to arrange to the Cycle.
Start a Cycle stage in Stages, if you have not already.
Open the Cycle’s Layout tab. Choose the Stage and Area you want to view. Stages with the same name are distinguished by their dates.
Select Create Layout. The Area’s length, width, and unit fill in automatically when available; otherwise enter the dimensions.
Use Add Plant and Add Light to place existing Cycle items, then select Save.
You can create a separate layout for another Area in the same stage. The saved dimensions belong to that layout, so later changes to the Area template do not resize it. Copy Previous Stage Layout can start a new stage with the previous stage’s arrangements; the copy can then be edited separately.
Arrange Plants and Lights#
Select Edit Layout to add, move, or remove placements. Drag a Plant or Light to move it, or select it to adjust its dimensions. A Plant’s footprint shows the space you assign to it. A Light’s coverage uses the Light template dimensions when available, but you can change them for this layout and rotate the coverage by 90 degrees. Coverage is a planning outline; it does not mean PPFD is uniform across that area.
For exact placement, open Position. Center X measures from the left edge to the item’s center; Center Y measures from the top edge to its center. Positions and dimensions use the layout’s unit. Placements must fit inside the layout before you can save.
If a Cycle Plant or Cycle Light has a count greater than one, you can place each physical instance separately. These placements still share that Plant’s or Light’s recorded history; they are not separate tracked items. Removing a placement from the layout does not delete the Plant or Light. Select Cancel to discard unsaved edits.
Use Zoom In, Zoom Out, and Fit to Space to change your view. Outside edit mode, drag to pan around a zoomed layout. In edit mode, turn on Pan to move the view without moving a Plant or Light; turn it off to resume moving placements. These view controls do not change saved positions.
How placements help with new readings#
Placing a Plant or Cycle Light can save you a step when recording a new reading. If it appears in just one Grow Space Area for the stage on the reading’s date, GroBase suggests that Area for a Plant Environment reading or a Cycle Light reading for that specific Light. You can change or clear the suggestion before saving. If the item appears in several Areas, GroBase uses that stage’s Default area for new readings when one is set; otherwise the Area field stays blank.
This suggestion applies to those reading forms, not every Log Activity. A Plant with its own stage timeline uses that timeline’s default Area rather than a placement from a different Cycle stage. See Activities and Measurements for the full Area selection rules.
View readings on the layout#
In a saved layout, use Display to switch from Layout to Temperature, Humidity, VPD, PPFD, or DLI. Choose Latest readings in the selected stage or a specific Date. For Temperature, Humidity, and VPD, choose Lights On or Lights Off as appropriate.
The reading summary distinguishes Area readings from Plant and Cycle Light readings. If several physical placements belong to one Plant or Light, its reading is shared across those placements. Only readings saved with the selected Area appear; the stage’s Default area for new readings does not change past readings or decide which readings belong in an overlay. See Activities and Measurements for how Area is suggested when you record new data.
To remove an arrangement, select Edit Layout, then Delete Layout. This removes that stage and Area’s placements, not the Plants, Lights, Area, or readings.
